Methodology - About the Authors

Our in-house technical author team is led by Julia Bowyer FCA, Content and Innovation Manager - Audit and Accounting. Julia joined Croner-i Ltd from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where over 17 years she had experience of audit, accounting and structuring advice, technical helplines, reviews of listed financial statements and due diligence. With knowledge across company law, UK GAAP and IFRS, Julia is responsible for ensuring our content is relevant, up-to-date, clearly organised and technically strong. Another key priority is ensuring linkage of comprehensive commentary, guidance and tools to each other and to the underlying standards and requirements to help all users navigate and understand the complexities.

Helen MacNeill FCA has worked in a variety of audit-related roles in BDO LLP and as a freelance technical author for Implementing GAAS. At Croner-i, as the lead technical writer for auditing, she is responsible for Navigate Audit including the Private Company Audit System (PCAS) and other audit programmes, ensuring that technical changes are processed promptly and comprehensively. At BDO LLP she was a core member of the technical department where she developed BDO’s audit automation tool and global audit manual. She also authored and delivered technical audit training materials and guidance for the UK audit teams. Helen is a member of ICAEW’s ISA panel.

Rachel Farris FCA CTA, a the lead technical writer for accounting at Croner-i, and focuses on Navigate UK GAAP Accounting, Navigate IFRS Accounting, company law and practice management products such as Engagement Letter Toolkit.  Starting her career in Deloitte’s audit department, she has followed a diverse path that has included working in the tax departments of Deloitte in the UK and PwC in New Zealand, giving her a real breadth of experience and expertise. Before joining Croner-i, Rachel worked in the accounting consulting team of PwC New Zealand, advising on a wide range of technical accounting issues under IFRS, specialising particularly in assets, share-based payments and not-for-profit entities. 

Sarah Baxendale FCA is a senior technical writer for audit and accountancy at Croner-i where she focuses on IFRS and UK accounting guidance, accounts preparation, model accounts, company reporting for IFRS and UK GAAP and guidance on corporate governance.  Prior to this, Sarah was Director in the Accounting and Outsourcing team at Mazars.  She has also worked at PwC for 12 years gaining experience in audit, IFRS implementations and Corporate Reporting, as well as being an examination marker for the ICAEW and ACCA.

Lizzie Morris ACA is a senior technical writer for audit and accountancy at Croner-i, where she works on a wide range of audit, IFRS and UK GAAP accounting, CASS and corporate finance products.  Previously, Lizzie was a manager at HW Fisher, where she qualified. She worked across the audit and corporate finance departments where, alongside audit work, she was involved in reporting accountant engagements for companies seeking a listing on the Standard Market of the London Stock Exchange or AIM and all areas of transaction services, including vendor and purchaser due diligence. She is experienced in auditing private and listed organisations across a range of industries, including regulated financial services, technology and mining. She has an in-depth technical knowledge and practical understanding of IFRS and FRS 102.

Donna Stofberg ACA is a senior technical writer for audit and accounting at Croner-i where she focusses on serving the needs of sole practitioners and small practices. Her responsibilities include small and micro content in Navigate Accounting, the clubs area of Navigate Audit and client money assignment tools and guidance. Donna qualified at a small accountancy practice in south London and has over 15 years’ experience working with sole practitioners and in small practices dealing with a wide range of clients and sectors. She specialised in service charge accounts, including ARMA and Property Mark client money checks, before joining Croner-i. Donna is a former Editor of Accountancy SA, the official journal of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Sarika Sharma ACA is a technical writer on audit and accounting at Croner-i, and works across a range of audit, IFRS and UK GAAP accounting, news and corporate governance products. Before joining Croner-i gained experience working as a finance manager within the not-for-profit sector, leading a range of areas including statutory accounting, disclosures, ESG reports, grants and strategic analysis to the executive committees and Board. Her background also includes working for a small accountancy practice, and as an auditor at the National Audit Office leading analysis for parliament and statutory audits of government bodies. She has in-depth technical knowledge of auditing standards, IFRS and FRS 102 as well as specialist experience with charities and not-for-profits. Sarika is also an appointed member of the ICAEW’s Ethics Advisory Committee, supporting ethical matters impacting the accountancy profession.
