Methodology - About the Authors

Our in-house technical author team is led by Julia Bowyer FCA, Accounting and Audit Content Manager. Julia joined Croner-i Ltd from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where over 17 years she had experience of audit, accounting and structuring advice, technical helplines, reviews of listed financial statements and due diligence. With knowledge across company law, UK GAAP and IFRS, her specialist areas include real estate and infrastructure, Julia is responsible for ensuring our content is relevant, accessible and technically strong.

Helen MacNeill FCA has worked in a variety of audit-related roles in BDO LLP and as a freelance technical author for Implementing GAAS. At Croner-i she is responsible for Private Company Audit System (PCAS) and other audit programmes, ensuring that technical changes are processed in real-time. At BDO LLP she was a core member of the technical department where she developed BDO’s audit automation tool and global audit manual. She also authored and delivered technical audit training materials and guidance for the UK audit teams. She has updated Implementing GAAS for the last 6 years for changes in auditing standards and legislation. Helen is a member of ICAEW’s ISA panel.

Rachel Farris FCA CTA focuses on disclosure checklists and practice management products such as ELT.  Starting her career in Deloitte’s audit department, she has followed a diverse path that has included working in the tax departments of Deloitte in the UK and PwC in New Zealand, giving her a real breadth of experience and expertise. Before joining Croner-i, Rachel worked in the accounting consulting team of PwC New Zealand, advising on a wide range of technical accounting issues under IFRS, specialising particularly in assets, share-based payments and not-for-profit entities. 

Michelle Roberts ACA is a senior technical writer for audit and accountancy at Croner-i where she focuses on audit tools, UK GAAP commentary products and Croner-i eCPD. Before joining Croner-i, Michelle spent 11 years in KPMG’s audit department gaining experience across a wide range of industries including business services, construction and utilities. Michelle also has experience of authoring and delivering technical training material to meet the needs of KPMG’s UK audit staff.

Kate Beeston ACA is a technical writer for audit and accountancy at Croner-i, where she focuses on audit, Company Reporting and eCPD. Prior to working at Croner-i, Kate was a financial reporting and audit tutor at BPP in London where she prepared students for a range of professional exams including for ICAEW, ICAS and ACCA.  As a result Kate has an in-depth technical and practical understanding of IFRS, ISAs and ethical standards. Kate qualified at KPMG where she gained experience auditing FTSE 100 and other large corporate organisations, mainly in the business services, utilities and shipping industries. She also developed and delivered face to face and online technical training to audit trainees on a range of topics including new UK GAAP.

Lizzie Morris ACA is a technical writer for audit and accountancy at Croner-i, where she works on a wide range of audit, IFRS and UK GAAP accounting, CASS and corporate finance products.  Previously, Lizzie was a manager at HW Fisher, where she qualified. She worked across the audit and corporate finance departments where, alongside audit work, she was involved in reporting accountant engagements for companies seeking a listing on the Standard Market of the London Stock Exchange or AIM and all areas of transaction services, including vendor and purchaser due diligence. She is experienced in auditing private and listed organisations across a range of industries, including regulated financial services, technology and mining. She has an in-depth technical knowledge and practical understanding of IFRS and FRS 102.

Glynnis Carthy CA(SA) is a financial reporting specialist who provides consulting and training services related to the interpretation and application of IFRS, as well as being part of the Croner-i audit and accountancy team.  Having trained at Deloitte and spent 4 years in their accounting technical department, Glynnis has extensive practical experience and knowledge of IFRS and advises on the application of IFRS to specific transactions. Glynnis also consults on the extent to which financial statements comply with IFRS. She has previously been involved in the education of qualified chartered accountants and auditors, as well as preparing students for their professional exams. She has been an independent non-executive director of a listed company and is chair of the Audit and Finance Committee of a multi-academy trust.  

Paul Robbins ACA, CTA is the content and innovation manager for Croner-i Tax. After graduating, Paul worked in the tax departments of two large firms now absorbed into the Big 4 before joining Croner-i as a tax technical writer specialising in corporates. At Croner-i, he has held various publishing posts whilst also managing the team of in-house tax writers and being lead technical editor on a number of core titles. He is now responsible for the quality and development of the Croner-i tax portfolio.
