Where the owner of valuable chattels or works of art does not wish to make outright gifts, but prefers that he (or his trustees) will have power to determine who enjoys the use of those chattels, it may be appropriate to use a discretionary trust. The settlor would need to have due regard to the fact that the trustee may find it difficult to keep track of the location and conditions of the chattels.
