The legislative provisions to enable the implementation of e-conveyancing are contained in the Land Registration Act 2002. Various pilot exercises were conducted, against the background of the introduction of e-conveyancing in stages. HM Land Registry said on their website: ‘Our aim throughout the programme is to introduce new services incrementally, in steps that will be manageable for all users.’ That said, most searches are now available online and some documents can be lodged electronically.
