Where a valid adoption order has been made in respect of a child, that child is treated as the child of the adopters for all purposes.40 In this way, a child who has been adopted has no rights of succession within his or her birth family and, similarly, the natural birth family has no right to succeed to the adoptee’s estate. The adoptee has full rights of succession within the adopted family.
