Personal representatives: The personal representatives of a deceased person are the person, persons or company entrusted with the administration of the estate of the deceased. There are two classes of personal representatives: an executor (or executrix4) and an administrator (or administratrix5).

Executor: An executor is someone appointed by the deceased’s will (or a codicil to that will) to administer the deceased’s estate, almost always the entire estate. A special executor is one appointed for only part of the deceased’s property (such as the deceased’s literary property or settled land6 settled in his or her lifetime).
