Deaths must be registered.1 Unusual or suspicious deaths are investigated, with or without a formal inquest conducted by a coroner.

It is unlawful to administer the estate of a deceased person without proper authority. Anyone doing so is called an executor de son tort,2 and may incur liability for so acting.
