5.11.1 Length and number of engagements

The length and number of engagements may be an important factor in determining whether someone is going about his own business as opposed to somebody elseʼs. The more and the shorter the engagements, the more likely this is to look like a business. The Employment Status Manual makes the valid point that the length of an engagement is not a consideration on its own, but habitually goes along with two other factors: integration into the organisation, and the need for control.
