On a person acquiring an asset as a legatee, no chargeable gain accrues to the personal representatives and the legatee is treated as if the personal representative’s acquisition of the asset had been his acquisition of it, i.e. the legatee’s base cost for CGT purposes is the market value of the asset at the deceased’s death.
