The motivation for the government to introduce changes to the furnished holiday lettings regime was the concern over the historic restrictions of the rules to UK properties only. This was considered to be discriminatory under EU rules and so an extension of the special tax regime to the EEA was decided upon. This all seems rather historic given events in the UK since 2016 and it is not clear how Brexit will impact FHLs in the EEA.
