8.8 Other types of allowance – the structures and buildings allowance (SBA)
8.8.1 What is the structures and buildings allowance and what are the basic conditions?
The structures and buildings allowance (SBA) is a tax relief which allows the construction costs of a building to be written down over a 50-year period. The allowance is given at a flat rate of 2% per annum and is only available for commercial buildings. The relief was introduced during the Budget of October 2018, but the legislation was not finalised until the following July. The statutory provisions can be found at CAA 2001, Pt. 2A, inserted by the Capital Allowances (Structures and Buildings Allowances) Regulations 2019 (SI 2019/1087).
