12.3.1 UK property businesses – how losses are relieved

For a UK property business, losses are relieved in the following way, provided that the business is being carried out on a commercial basis:

Losses are set against the company’s total profits from the same accounting period. For these purposes, a company’s total profits include chargeable gains as well as income profits (CTA 2010, s. 4(3), 1118, 1119).
