Local authorities are empowered under National Assistance (Amendment) Act 1962 to arrange for the provision of meals for older and vulnerable people. Such meals may be served in day centres, community halls or similar, or delivered direct to the home of the elderly or vulnerable person as what has become known as ‘meals on wheels’ or meals for the elderly.
