A local authority may sometimes use statutory powers available to it to issue an enforcement notice to an individual, usually a property owner or occupier, who has defaulted on their responsibility to keep their property in a satisfactory state of repair. An authority may issue an enforcement notice in respect of, for example, unsafe buildings or damaged drains and sewers.
