A company is a legal person in its own right, quite distinct from its officers and members (Salomon v Salomon & Co Ltd [1897] AC 22).

A company which carries on a number of businesses may only have one registration (subject to the power to register separately the divisions of a company; ΒΆ43-530) just as a sole trader may only have one registration, even though he runs more than one separate business.
