In general, land is not a wasting asset: though its value may fluctuate, it cannot depreciate through use. One exception to this general rule is land used for cemeteries. When a cemetery operator grants a licence for burial in a particular grave-space he effectively deprives himself of the right to obtain any further benefit from that land for a very long period. There are special legal provisions dealing with the use which may be made of land which is part of a cemetery.
