A ‘housing association’ is a non-profit making body established for the provision or encouragement of housing (Housing Act 1985). Many housing associations will qualify as full charities and be treated in the same favourable manner as other charities (see ¶815-305). Co-operative housing associations are also treated favourably (see ¶805-700). Other associations may qualify as ‘self build societies’; see ¶805-750.
