In order to obtain distributor status, a fund must apply for certification that, in respect of a particular account period, it pursued a full distribution policy (ICTA 1988, s. 760(2)). The procedure for certification, and the effect of a refusal of certification, are in ICTA 1988, Sch. 27, Pt. III, IV.

An application may be made to the Board by the fund, or on behalf of the fund by the trustee or officer thereof. It must be made:

within six months after the end of the account period in question; or

at such later time as the Board may in a particular case allow (ICTA 1988, Sch. 27, para. 15(2)).
