This Chapter considers the corporation tax treatment of foreign exchange gains and losses arising to companies under their loan relationships and derivative contracts. As a general rule, exchange gains and losses under these transactions are taxed and relieved in accordance with the GAAP-compliant accounting treatment. An important consequence of this is that exchange gains and losses under these transactions will usually be brought into account for tax purposes both annually and when the transaction comes to an end.
