In general, for the old ‘Schedule A’, all of the principles applicable to the derivation of taxable trading profits and losses were applicable, except where there was an express disapplication. Thus, issues such as the distinction between capital and revenue and the relevance of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including how they were applied to the calculation of taxable trading profits, were all relevant to the old Schedule A.
