The personal cumulative total of a trustee is never relevant in calculating inheritance tax payable in respect of settled property (unless the trustee is also the settlor). Equally, exemptions and reliefs due to the trustee as an individual are not available in respect of settled property. Settled property does not form part of the trustee's ‘estate’: see IHTA 1984, s. 5(2).
