The replacement asset must be taken into use for the purposes of the trade on the acquisition (TCGA 1992, s. 152(1)).

Assets do not have to be new in the sense of unused; second-hand assets will qualify and assets previously used by the claimant may also qualify (see ¶570-900 and ¶570-950).
