Apart from the rules required to overcome the practical difficulties in identifying shares, securities, options, etc. (see ¶555-000), there are a number of special relieving or charging provisions relating to financial instruments.

There are rules to provide relief from taxes on chargeable gains for financial instruments which are the subject of particular transactions or which are held for particular purposes. Transactions in instruments of the following types are specifically relieved:

gilt-edged securities and qualifying corporate bonds (see ¶559-000ff.);

transactions in savings certificates, etc. (see ¶508-420);
