The cost of professional fees and subscriptions is not an allowable deduction under the ordinary rules for employee expenses. Such costs are not considered to have arisen in the performance of the employment duties: see Simpson v Tate (1925) 9 TC 314 and Wales v Graham (1941) 24 TC 75.
