No deduction normally allowed

The cost of clothing is seldom allowable as a deduction from earnings purposes since it is rarely incurred wholly, exclusively and necessarily in the performance of an employee’s duties (Hillyer v Leeke (1976) 51 TC 90, the business tax case Mallalieu v Drummond [1983] BTC 380 and Williams [2010] TC 00397).
