Where a member is terminally ill, his entitlement to benefits under the scheme may be paid out in the form of a lump sum. To qualify as a ‘serious ill-health lump sum’, the following conditions must be satisfied:

prior to the payment, the administrator has received evidence from a registered medical practitioner confirming that the member is not expected to live for more than one year;
