Where a member is terminally ill, his or her entitlement to benefits under the scheme may be paid out in the form of a lump sum. For the sum to qualify as a ‘serious ill-health lump sum’, the following conditions must be satisfied:

prior to the payment, the administrator has received evidence from a registered medical practitioner confirming that the member is expected to live for less than one year;

at the time the payment is made, the member still has some part of his or her lifetime allowance available (see ¶384-000) and
