A Real Estate Investment Trust (‘REIT’) is a listed company which invests substantially in real property held as part of a property rental business and which is entitled to tax exemption of the profits of that rental business. To qualify for this treatment, it must distribute at least 90% of those profits each year (see ¶788-000).
