There is no definition in the Capital Allowances Act 2001 of the word ‘plant’. Some types of expenditure are specifically included; for example, the cost of thermal insulation for buildings used for qualifying activities and the expense of altering existing buildings in connection with the installation of plant and machinery. These, and other such items, are all subject to their own conditions and in each case the full details can be found elsewhere in this division.
