HMRC accept payment of tax by a range of methods:

online or telephone banking (Faster Payments);

CHAPS;

online debit card or corporate credit card;

bank or building society;

Bacs;

cheque through the post; and

direct debit.

The time to be allowed for payment depends on the payment method and the type of tax being paid.
