Most states with developed social security systems have concluded treaties with their main trading partners with the objective of avoiding a loss of benefit entitlement when employees move between the treaty countries. A secondary objective is to avoid dual contribution liability and to prevent overlapping benefit entitlement. The UK has a network of such treaties, listed at ¶1036-730, which are also administered by HMRC’s International Casework Team.
