Amounts derived from a past employment in which earnings were paid regularly, which are paid out after termination but would not be in respect of a regular interval (e.g. ad hoc bonuses) or are additions to payments made before termination (e.g. backdated pay awards) are deemed to have an earnings period of a week (Contributions Regulations, reg. 3(5)–(6)).
