Steve Collings FMAAT FCCA is the audit and technical director at Leavitt Walmsley Associates, a firm of Chartered Certified Accountants based in Cheshire. He is a regular contributor of modules on a range of accounting topics for Croner-i eCPD® and reviews the Academy area of Navigate Audit. Steve works closely with academies and specialises in audit, accounting and Solicitors Accounts Rules. Steve is a member of the UK GAAP Technical Advisory Group at the Financial Reporting Council and has written several books on the subjects of auditing and accounting. He is also a nationwide lecturer on UK GAAP, IFRS and auditing. Steve has won ‘Accounting Technician of the Year’ at the British Accountancy Awards and was shortlisted for Practitioner of the Year. He has also been awarded ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Accountancy Profession’ by the Association of International Accountants.
Ian Connon MA FCA is Director of Audit and Assurance within the Technical Department at BDO LLP and has authored and reviewed Implementing GAAS for a number of years. He has many years of practical and technical experience in audit with BDO and previously with PKF including the development of audit methodologies, writing audit manuals, development of automated audit tools and liaison with audit regulators. He is a long-standing member of the ICAEW’s Technical and Practical Auditing Committee and ISA Panel and contributes regularly to Audit and Assurance Faculty publications and helpsheets.
James Lole FCA is co-author of Practical Guide to the Companies Act and authors Croner-i content including Solicitors and other Client Money Programmes. James is a freelance technical consultant and trainer on financial reporting, auditing and ethical matters. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990 and spent his career providing auditing, accounting and business advisory services to a portfolio of clients from entrepreneurial owner-managed businesses to international groups. In 2006, he became National Technical Director for a top ten UK accountancy firm using his practical experience to provide client focused solutions and training in all areas of financial reporting and auditing.
Edward Rands BSc FCA is a reviewer of content on audit compliance in Navigate Audit. For eleven years Edward was the Risk and Professional Standards partner at a large independent firm of chartered accountants. He led the firm’s technical team, which was responsible for maintaining and updating accounting and auditing knowledge, and for dealing with complex problems and queries as they arose. He was also the founder chairman of the UK technical committee of his firm’s international network, and a contributing author of the network’s commercially published IFRS manual. He now works as an independent consultant, advising firms on technical and regulatory matters.
John Selwood ACA is a reviewer and contributor to a variety of Croner-i audit and accounting guidance, including model accounts, audit tools and methodology and a regular speaker at Accountants in Business. John is a chartered accountant and independent training consultant, who lectures for major accountancy practices, professional bodies, training companies and publishers. He speaks on financial reporting, auditing, money laundering and company law. John is a member of ICAEW’s Audit and Assurance Faculty’s Practitioner Services Panel Committee and the Technical and Practical Auditing Committee. He has been involved with presenting and writing the material for the Audit and Assurance and Financial Reporting faculties roadshows for a number of years. He also regularly writes for Audit & Beyond and is the author of Core Auditing Standards for Practitioners.
Helena Wilkinson FCA DChA is author of Preparing Charity Accounts and acts as a consultant the charity area of Navigate Audit. She works on a practice-wide basis at Price Bailey as a Partner and Head of Charities and Not for Profit. She is the Vice-Chair of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Charity Professionals Committee and was one of the first people to gain the ICAEW’s Diploma in Charity Accounting (DChA). She is a recognised charity expert, writes for national and charity press including the Guardian and Charity Finance, and regularly presents at charity sector events. Her roles within the industry have included financial management, corporate governance and strategic planning.
David Duvall MA, FCA (1948-2021) co-authored Practical Guide to the Companies Act, was a regular author of Accountants' Digests and Croner-i eCPD® modules and reviewed the audit report area in Navigate Audit. After qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1973 with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co (now KPMG), David worked as a tutor for Financial Training in London and subsequently for ATC Thames Valley, where he was client liaison director. From 2002 until retirement from full-time work in April 2014, he was Training Manager at Chantrey Vellacott DFK, where he was responsible for graduate recruitment and co-ordinating student training as well as external and internal lecturing.
